The first International Greyhound Services Sale was a huge success with turnover surpassing the £100,000 mark.

The venue was Owlerton Stadium in Sheffield and a healthy crowd were present to watch the trials and subsequent auction.

In total, 46 lots were presented for sale and all but one were sold. The only unsold greyhound was prevented from trialling due to showing signs of being in season at kennelling and has subsequently returned to Ireland.

The fastest lot of the day was the 29.52 recorded by Lot 46 Mr Fitbit, a September ’23 black son of Grangeview Ten by Skywalker Bonnie. He was sold for £4300 and heads down to Romford to join Paul Young’s training ranks.

Top lot of the day was Lot 48 Droopys Academy, an October 23 son of Droopys Sydney by Droopys Sweet. Billed as potentially topping the sale, due to his sister’s (Droopys Bundle) impressive win in the prestigious Newbridge Unraced Bitch Stake last week, Academy ran a wide course in his trial and powered home on the run in to pass his opponent to stop the clock in 29.62. The new purchase, costing £7800, will join Richie Taberner at Monmore.

Another notable purchase was Posh Rocket, a November 23 son of Ballymac Cashout by Siobhans Rocket, who heads down to Maxine Locke at Romford.

Nathan Corden said “We were very happy with the sale and the figures were good too – it is the most successful sale we have held at Sheffield.”
